Lincoln Center

Dear Friends,

Welcome to our 2023 Lincoln Center Season – a jam-packed two weeks of iconic Taylor dances, company premieres, and theatrical experiences in one of the greatest dance theaters in the world. My goal every season is to expand the impact of what the Taylor Company brings to Lincoln Center. This Season is no exception.

As always, live music remains paramount, and I am thrilled to have Orchestra of St. Luke’s as our partner again, bringing an essential and poignant voice to our Season. From Bach to Stravinsky, Vaughan Williams to Piazzolla, Count Basie to Corelli…the variety of dance onstage is only matched by the music you’ll hear.

I look forward to seeing you,

Michael Novak
Artistic Director

    Esplanade | NOV 1, 3, 11 (MAT), 12
    Music by Johann Sebastian Bach

Inspired by the simple act of a woman running to catch a bus, Paul Taylor created Esplanade in 1975, a masterpiece based on pedestrian movement. By using these “found movements,” Taylor showcases the beauty and expressive power of everyday actions, making the audience appreciate grace in the seemingly mundane. BUY NOW

    Music by Igor Stravinsky

“It takes a genius to upstage another genius, and that’s just about what Paul Taylor accomplished in his deliciously berserk dance version of Igor Stravinsky’s hallowed, epoch-making score… Taylor uses this musical masterpiece as if it were simply a fiendishly interesting piece of music… in devising a dance charade of ever so brittle, arch and waspish humor.” – Alan M. Kriegsman, The Washington Post BUY NOW

    Mercuric Tidings | NOV 2 (GALA), 3, 7, 11 (MAT)
    Music by Franz Schubert

Meet the Paul Taylor Dance Company

November 1–13
Paul Taylor at The David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center

November 1–13

Join us June 14-19 at The Joyce for three unique programs that highlight Paul Taylor’s early groundbreaking dances including Events II (1957), Fibers (1961), Images and Reflections (1958), and Tracer (1962). A world premiere by Michelle Manzanales, a New York premiere by Peter Chu, the return of Profiles (1979), and the Diamond Anniversary of the beloved Aureole (1962) round out these intimate programs, revealing the fascinating intersection of radicalism and beauty…of where our art form has been and where it is heading.

Aureole, Paul Taylor’s 1962 work that earned him world renown, closes each of the three unique programs. Cheekily set to music composed by G.F. Handel more than two hundred years earlier, this supremely life-affirming work is “love at first sight… it sings out with beauty and joy of dance itself.” (The New York Times)

Taylor starred in the lyrical work for many years, and taught his role to generations of Taylor dancers as well as to Rudolf Nureyev and Mikhail Baryshnikov. Aureole proved so popular and universal in its appeal that ballet and modern dance companies worldwide have performed it.
